What did I like and dislike about online teaching?
The online space allows access to broad and in-depth knowledge sharing and collaboration through informational technologies such as websites and applications.
However this largely inhibited by device compatibility and stabile internet connection. This creates barriers to teaching and learning when devices report high cpu usage; freeze or experience internet lag.
What new skills did I learn through this experience?
the experience taught me how to share the process or learning and teaching as part of a co-operative and collaborative environment. by condensing and clarifying objectives. more importantly it taught me the importance of pre-testing/trailing technologies as well as the importance of having resilience in the execution of an objective.
What would you do differently?
the lesson was based on giving and following directions; i would use a Quizlet platform which will enable me to host the classroom resources in terms of varied activities that target the lesson objectives. in doing the device will not experience high cpu usage and freeze learners will be able to engage in the lesson independently. i will not rely on screen sharing to host the lesson as technical issues in this regard subsequently hindered the progression of the online lesson
Did I select appropriate tools to teach your online lesson, explain why?
in hindsight it is clearly evident that while google earth and maps are great online platforms-with regards to lessons based on directions- they are ineffective when used in context that render them susceptible to technical issues resulting in glitches; lag or high cpu usage detection
I would upload the same simple illustration map used however on quizlet; along with the key vocabulary in the terminology component of quizlet this will allow learners to engage with the language learning through visual and auditory feedback and assessment already pre-loaded
How has this experience developed me for teaching in a school?
it has highlighted the importance of simplifying the learning process and experience with the focus on ensuring access; engagement and feedback in the learning process
Your reflection shows your adaptability skills . What you have learnt through this experience is evident, and the skills you have gained is beneficial for your teaching career because the concept of traditional education is changing rapidly, teachers need to be well equipped with online platforms. Your choice of the tool is very engaging , you should definitely make use of it in future lessons.
